Spicmacay Project

Spicmacay - Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth - is a non-profit voluntary movement formed out of a conviction that an appreciation of the richness, variety and aesthetics of culture is the cornerstone of education. Every year it organizes around 1500 free concerts in educational institutions to make the youth aware of the diverse yet integrated strands of our culture. Apeejay School Park Street joined this movement in August 2003. Joining hands with other schools, Apeejay Schools work towards bringing a ray of hope in their lives and smiles on their faces.

The Spicmacay Club organized a cultural program of 'PungCholom', a Manipuri dance form, on the 30th November 2011 at Apeejay School, Salt Lake. Volunteers from both the schools helped the teachers in organizing the program. It was held for the students of classes VI - XI, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A group of children performed to their own drum beats, marked by a gentle rhythm which built up to a fantastic climax. The main instrument was the ‘Pung’, which is a form of hand-beaten drum to which they dance at the same time as they play it.
